WordPress

There are two type of service on wordrpess. First one is wordpress.com and other is wordpress.org. WordPress.com gives the opportunity to create blog on the subdomain of wordpress.com. It is free of charge to open a wordpress.com. But one big problem is that they does not allow major change in your site. This is where the other service wordpress.org comes in. Google Blogger

Google allows you to create personal blog on a sub domain of blogspot.com. This blogging platform is also free of charge. Hosting and bandwidth are managed by google. You will need a gmail account to start a Google blogger service. It has a well structured dashboard to control your blog without any change to your HTML code. You can edit your HTML code also as you require. Blogger is also another popular blogging platform. It has enough free resource on the Internet to help you.  So you can start using this blogger with just a gmail account.

TypePad

Type pad is another blogging platform which has a user friendly interface and easy management system. It allows a search engine friendly URL submitting system. But it is a paid blogging service. $8.95 you have to pay per month.

Movable Type

This blogging platform is an open source platform scripted in PERL language by company named Six Apart. It is something similar to wordpress. Movable type offers a package for non developers on MovableType.com and another one for developers who want to customize their blog as they like. Multiple user can register and post there.

LiveJournal

Live Journal is another product of Six Apart company written in pearl programming language. It has a specialty in creating  social communities. The registered users can be friends with one another. It has a problem that you can advertise on any section of the site you chose. By having a paid service you can get many more feature of live journal.

Drupal

Basically Drupal is a CMS based blogging platform. This blogging platform has huge amount of free template and plug-ins/module developed by its community. It is easy to install and manage on your own web hosting. A lot of popular blogging site are developed on drupal CMS.
